Porcupine Tree - The Sound of Muzak

Yesterday was the first time in my life when I was listening to Porcupine Tree. Well, to be honest, I've listened only to a few songs.

And this all beacause of the tune called The Sound of Muzak from the album In Absentia.

Of course, it's good music, but check out the lyrics:

Hear the sound of music
Drifting in the aisles
Elevator prozac
Stretching on for miles

The music of the future
Will not entertain
It's only meant to repress
And neutralise your brain

Soul gets squeezed out
Edges get blunt
Demographic
Gives what you want

Now the sound of music
Comes in silver pills
Engineered to suit you
Building cheaper thrills

The music of rebellion
Makes you wanna rage
But it's made by millionaires
Who are nearly twice your age

One of the wonders of the world is going down
It's going down I know
It's one of the blunders of the world that no-one cares
No-one cares enough

It's great written, but it's, unfortunately, also very true. Music nowadays is too often just a product. Musicians aren't artists, they don't want to make a beautiful thing, they don't trasmite true emotions. Music they made is just a product. Everything is repetitive, stupid, easy.

Corporations just want to earn a lot of money. They're hiring a lot of people to produce easy-listening song, without good or even true lyrics.

It's nothing wrong with recording songs if you can't sing. But it's really bad if you're pretening that you can. Example? Lana del Rey. She's sold more records than Adele (who writes everything by myself, has a great voice and can sing), but she can't even sing well. She was made to cancel her tour after her pathetic performance in one of the TV show, to have some sing lessons. She should have done it before she recorded 'her' CD.

I hate Lana del Rey.

Tell me what do you think about the song, music industry or Lana del Rey.

Or just enjoy the song:

Beastie Boys - To The 5 Boroughs

Hey ladies, fellas and everyone between. What's the time? No, it's not time to get ill. It's time for my first album review.

At first, let's quote Wikipedia: 'To the 5 Boroughs is the sixth studio album by the Beastie Boys. The album was released on June 14, 2004 internationally, and a day later in the United States. The album debuted #1 on the Billboard 200 with 360,000 copies sold in its first week. To the 5 Boroughs was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Rap Album at the 47th Grammy Awards, losing to Kanye West's The College Dropout'.

Okay, it's enough of dry facts.

It's one of my favorite albums by Beastie Boys. It has 16 tracks, which share some similarities, but it's really different than anything else in their discography. There is no instrumental tracks or sick beats. There is, of course, a lot of samples and great rhymes. Beasts are simple, clear, and great. Lyrics make You want to party, but there is also e.g. criticism of George W. Bush and his politics.

Favorite song? Well, I have to admit I'm genetically disabled, I don't have the ability to easily chose my favorite song form any album. I want to mention two songs.

An Open Letter to NYC is one of my favorite love songs. Yeah, love songs. It's about love To the city that blends and mends and tests. Lyric is great and touching. Let me quote a few great verses:
Dear New York I know a lot has changed
2 towers down but you're still in the game
Home to many rejecting know one
Accepting peoples of all places, wherever they're from

Another song which I'd like to mention is Triple Trouble. It's good, but I'm writing about it, because of a great intro in the video. You can learn from it, why they haven't recorded anything new for a 6 years. Yeah, Sasquatch.

Worst song on the album? I used to like less Crawlspace, but it was a really long time ago.

I remember one night when I was reading the liner I found something that make me sad: they sampled something from 50 Cent. He isn't very respectable rapper. I can't forget one of his stupidest lyric:  I love you like a fat kid love cake. So romantic.

The liner is very nice. I thought about put it on my wall. It's a really great piece of New York City. By the way, I hope that one day I visit this place.

Before I buy the album I had downloaded it. And then, when I finally bought it I was very surprised. There was a track called 3 the Hard Way. What I downloaded was incomplete. Yeah, You've just read the paragraph against piracy.

To sum up, if You haven't listen the album or even to Beastie Boys yet, You're definitely missing something in Your live.

Oh, I hate writing summaries.
